Preface.

The manner in which the intentions of deceased persons, expressed in their last wills, are carried out, or rather in which these intentions are legalized, is sui generis in the State of New York, which as a Colony was first governed under Roman-Dutch law, and it seems appropriate that a volume which gives abstracts of wills, made in Colonial days, as well as after the organization of the State, should have a history of the legal proceedings to which last wills were and are subjected as.
