Template:Wikidata/doc

Watchers

This template is used to create a link to a record in Wikidata.

Usage

This template can be placed anywhere on a page, but the most common usage is:

  • in the description field of a Reference Number fact (typically only if not used in a source citation)
  • in a source citation where the source title = Wikidata

Note that the template takes 2 parameters but is designed to use only 1 when used in a Reference Number fact (see below).

Usage in a Reference Number fact

Add an event/fact and select type Reference Number. Enter the following in the description field:

{{Wikidata|ID}}

where:

ID = the ID number copied from the Wikidata record (the letter Q followed by a string of numbers, appearing beside the person's name)

WeRelate will display the Wikidata ID, serving as a link to the Wikidata record, followed by "(Wikidata)" - this lets the reader know which site the reference number is for.

Example

{{Wikidata|Q18631881}}
will appear as:
Q18631881 (Wikidata)

Usage in a source citation

Create a source citation of type Source and enter Wikidata in the title field. Enter the following in the source citation:

{{Wikidata|ID|text}}

where:

ID = the ID number copied from the Wikidata record (the letter Q followed by a string of numbers, appearing beside the person's name)
text = the text you wish to display in the link on the WeRelate page

WeRelate will display the text you included, serving as a link to the Wikidata record.

Examples

  1. {{Wikidata|Q18631881|Q18631881}}
    will appear as:
    Q18631881
  2. {{Wikidata|Q18631881|Hubert Aaronson}}
    will appear as:
    Hubert Aaronson
