Template:WTID/doc

Watchers

This template is used to create a link to a WikiTree page.

Usage

This template can be placed anywhere on a page, but the most common usage is:

  • in a source citation where the source title = Wikitree.com
  • in the description field of a Reference Number fact (typically only if not used in a source citation)

Note that the template takes 2 parameters but is designed to use only 1 when used in a Reference Number fact (see below).

Usage in a source citation

Create a source citation of type Source and enter Wikitree.com in the title field. Enter the following in the source citation:

{{WTID|ID|text}}

where

ID = the last section of the URL for the WikiTree page (that is, the text that appears after "www.wikitree.com/wiki/", formatted as Surname-####)
text = the text you wish to display in the link on the WeRelate page

WeRelate will display the text you included, serving as a link to the WikiTree page.

Example

{{WTID|Allison-7942|Anthony D Allison}}
will appear as:
Anthony D Allison

Usage in a Reference Number fact

Add an event/fact and select type Reference Number. Enter the following in the description field:

{{WTID|ID}}

where:

ID is as described above

WeRelate will display the WikiTree ID, serving as a link to the WikiTree page, followed by "(WikiTree)" - this lets the reader know which site the reference number is for.

Example

{{WTID|Allison-7942}}
will appear as:
Allison-7942 (WikiTree)
