Template:AFN/doc

Watchers

This template is used to create a link to the Ancestral File.

Note that the Ancestral File has been deprecated and is available online only as a search to the Ancestral File record and all related Pedigree Resource File records that were used as input. The search can be slow.

Usage

This template can be placed anywhere on a page, but the most common usage is:

  • in a source citation where the source title = Ancestral File
  • in the description field of a Reference Number fact (typically only if not used in a source citation)

Note that the template takes 2 parameters but is designed to use only 1 when used in a Reference Number fact (see below).

Usage in a source citation

Create a source citation of type Source and enter Ancestral File in the title field. Enter the following in the source citation:

{{AFN|ID|text}}

where:

ID = the Ancestral File Number
text = the text you wish to display in the link on the WeRelate page

WeRelate will display the text you included, serving as a link to execute a search for Ancestral File resources.

Example

{{AFN|LHN8-JK|Robert Stewart}}
will appear as:
Robert Stewart

Usage in a Reference Number fact

Add an event/fact and select type Reference Number. Enter the following in the description field:

{{AFN|ID}}

where:

ID = the Ancestral File Number

WeRelate will display the Ancestral File Number, serving as a link to execute a search for Ancestral File resoruces, followed by "(Ancestral File)" - this lets the reader know which site the reference number is for.

Example

{{AFN|LHN8-JK}}
will appear as:
LHN8-JK (Ancestral File)
