From Gille Chriosd to Gilcrest

This book was written by Robert Alexander Gilcrest, the brother of my great great grandmother Elizabeth Jane Gilcrest. It is often used as a reference source, but a little difficult to access. There is a copy in the Library of Congress and the Family History Library has a copy on microfilm. A newly found and wonderfully generous cousin, Waynne Blue James, recently sent me a pdf copy of her copy of the book. Since the book is only 79 pages, and in a large font, it seemed like a good candidate for a transcription.
There are some handwritten notations in the book that may possibly be by the author.
All information in brackets are my notes.
I have transcribed the book as is, with minor exceptions, leaving in place the author's choice of punctuation and abbreviation. There are a few sections that cover general history of the name, which i have not added yet, as I don't think they are useful, but I will add eventually.
The book does not have a table of contents or index. The table of contents listed is my own creation to break up the book into useful and linkable sections. Eventually I will add an index, also of my own making.
My intention is to link all the people in the book to a person page here on WeRelate. This will be an ongoing project, so please forgive the mess while under construction.

update [18 September 2009]

Most of the text is added and the gedcom that relates to the book has been uploaded and cleaned up. It remains to link the text to the individual person pages.. which may take awhile. Amelia J.--88buckaroo 21:34, 17 September 2009 (EDT)

Update Nov.28, 2009 [28 November 2009]

well, all the linking is done. There are quite a few people in the text who don't have a person page. Either they were born too recently or they didn't have a death date. In the future it will be a project to research those people and make pages for those who are no longer living, which will probably be the case for many of them. Please let me know if you find any typos or names that are incorrectly linked. thanks, Amelia J.--88buckaroo 15:10, 28 November 2009 (EST)
