Source talk:Torrey, Clarence Almon. New England Marriages Prior to 1700 (CD-ROM)

Difference? [28 October 2012]

Is the content of this source different than the standard Torrey Source Page you're distinguishing it from? I understand that it has source citations and the other doesn't, but the source is being cited for what Torrey wrote, not his sources. If the genealogical content is the same, then they should be the same source page -- a user can confirm that the information exists in Torrey from either one. The fact that one version will offer Torrey's background sources is certainly something that should be addressed on the Source Page, but the general rule is that sources with the same content get one page -- the Torrey page already technically refers to the manuscript (which has the sources) plus all the republications. --Amelia 00:10, 29 October 2012 (EDT)

If you have a better way of attacking this, feel free. The object is to make the source page as user friendly as possible. Torrey's manuscript which is at the New England Historical Genealogical Society in Boston does contain the sources. He meant it as a finding aid. The original print edition did not include Torrey's listing of sources. In my mind, the reference to sources makes Torrey a much more useful reference and renders it not identical to the original GPC print edition. So, back to the first sentence.--jaques1724 00:59, 29 October 2012 (EDT)
