It is suggested this souce be used to provide a citation for a primary source document such as a birth, death or marriage certificate, certified extract of an entry in a register or a copy of an entry in a register which was issued by the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages for an event which occurred in the State of Victoria, Australia. A copy of this document can usually be obtained from the Registry (with certain date limitations) either by submitting an application for most Registry-issued certificates online or by completing an application form and mailing it to GPO Box 4332, Melbourne VIC 3001. The requirements to obtain an uncertified copy of an entry online are: Family Name, Type of event:(Birth, Death or Marriage),Reg'n No. & Year of Reg'n. To obtain a reg'n no. & year of reg'n, use the various BDM Indexes (such as the Pioneer, Federation, Edwardian, Great War etc Indexes) published by the Victorian Public Records Office which are widely available on Microfishe and CD-ROM at the PRO, public libraries, the State Library, Family History Centres and oline. These records are only indexes; they do not include images of actual records. They can be searched by: name, year, place, father’s name, mother’s name.
