The new transcription was made by Lula Hunter, a seasoned Thompson researcher and author of previous transcriptions from earlier photocopies. An index has been prepared by Jemima Gee Morse.

Barbara Thompson Saltou, Yuba City, Calif., and her father,Edward Roden Thompson, Archibald's gggg-grandson, visited Monroe County, Ky., in the 1980s, in search of their ancestral roots. While there, Barbara learned of the existence of the diary and got permission from a descendant who owns it to make a hand-written transcript. She and her cousins also made and donated a copy of the diary to the William B. Harlan Monroe County Library, Tompkinsville, Ky.[1]
