About Montana Death Index, 1860-2007

This database is an index to death records for the state of Montana from 1860 to 2007. The database consists of essentially two indexes - one compiled by the Montana State Genealogical Society and the other compiled by the State of Montana Office of Vital Statistics.

In October 2008 the Montana State Genealogical Society published an updated version of their index, including additional years not previously covered (1860-1906 and 2003-2007). Due to differences between this new index and the existing one, it was not always possible to merge individuals that were already listed in the database (years 1907-2002). Therefore, you may find duplicate individuals, but with different information provided in this database. Information that may be listed includes:

• Gender
• Age at time of death
• Death date
• Death place
• Index/File number
• Marital Status
• Source (Which agency that portion of the index was obtained from. See above for full source citations)
