[edit] Usage TipsThe population schedules of the eighth census (1860) of the United States are reproduced by the National Archives on the 1438 rolls of Microcopy #653. The schedules for each state or territory are bound in one or more volumes. The volumes are arranged alphabetically by name of state, thereunder by county, and thereunder by city, township, or minor civil division. The counties and lower civil divisions are not always arranged in alphabetical order within each state. The four volumes for the 41 counties of the territory of Kansas are on rolls 346–352. The second part of volume 2, on roll 350, contains the schedules for the counties of Johnson and Leavenworth, with Johnson County beginning on page 449 and spanning 121 pages. The official enumeration day of the census was 1 June 1860. This census was the first U.S. census since the establishment of Johnson County in 1855 and its organization in 1857 and the only decennial federal census before Kansas was made a state in 1861. No slave schedules were recorded for Kansas. [edit] General TipsOriginal (microfilm) images of the 1860 Census are sourced as COUNTY, STATE, United States. 1860 U.S. Census Population Schedule.
