Usage Tips

Joseph Hart (1761-1841)was the son of Thomas Hart and Nancy Stout Butler of Loudon Co., VA. His father married a second time after Joseph's mother died and was also the father of Isaac, Alexander and Jane. He married Nancy Shanklin in 1788 in Washington Co., VA. Later, he moved his family and sister Jane to Blount Co., Tennessee. Jane married Arthur Greer in 1797 and they raised their family in Blount and Knox Counties. Joseph's brother Isaac lived and died in Monroe Co., Tenn. and his brother Alexander lived and died in Georgia. Joseph and Nancy were the parents of five sons and one daughter: Edward (b.1789), Thomas (b.1791), Joseph, Jr. (b.1793), Silas (b. 1796), Gideon Blackburn (b.1798) and Elizabeth (b.1802). Nancy (d.1807) died while the children were young and Joseph married (2) Mary Means. They were the parents of five sons: William (b.1810), Samuel (b.1813), James Harvey (b.1815), Isaac Anderson (b.1817) and Charles Coffin (b.1820). Family members lived in Tennessee, Indiana and elsewhere.
