Catalog description: Includes English ancestry of "Joseph Jenks [who] was baptized at St. Anne, Blackfriars, London, on 26 Aug. 1599, the son of John and Sarah (Fulwater) Jenks. The 1596 marriage license of Joseph's parents shows, that his mother, Sarah, was a daughter of Henry Fulwater of the parish of St. Ann, Blackfriars, London."--P. 2. Joseph appears to have left England around 1642. He spent some time in Maine and New Hampshire and by 1645 was in Lynn, Massachusetts. Ancestors lived in England. Descendants lived in Massachusetts and elsewhere.

Partial contents: The English original of the New England colonist, Joseph Jenks -- The mother of Joseph Jenks -- The father of Joseph Jenks, a problem in identity -- The Jenks family of Clun and Clunbury, Shropshire -- The ancient family of Jenks -- The first wife of Joseph Jenks.

The article is based heavily on parish records and other contemporary English records, compared with evidence regarding the American immigrant.
