Roger Clap (1609-1691) was born in Devon, England and went into military service. A Puritan by religious persuasion, he eventually settled in New England seeking religious freedom. In 1633 he married Johanna Ford and they settled in Dorchester, Massachusetts where he was appointed Captain of the Castle (fort).
