Description

From the 2006 press release announcing the cemetery's designation as a National Historic Landmark: "Established in 1838, Green-Wood has the most extensive and intact landscape created following the principles of Andrew Jackson Downing, the most prominent landscape architect of the antebellum period. It is outstanding for its cohesive, picturesque character, integrated Gothic Revival architecture, and high integrity."

The cemetery has a webpage that provides an online burial search by name, returning interment date, and lot location. They will provide certified copies of burial records for a fee.
