Place talk:Nieuwer-Amstel, Noord-Holland, Netherlands

Amstelveen [11 May 2011]

I think we should consider redirecting Place:Amstelveen, Noord-Holland, Netherlands to here and adding Amstelveen as an alternate name on this Nieuwer Amstel page. I see also that you use a dash: Nieuwer-Amstel. I could rename this page to include the dash if that is more appropriate. --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:26, 26 November 2010 (EST)

In my geographic dictionary (1942) there is a dash also in Wikipedia (NL). That does it doesn't it?--Klaas (Ekjansen) 06:35, 26 November 2010 (EST)
So, I renamed both this page and Zorgvlied to add the dash and redirected Amstelveen to here. I also redirected both Zorgvlied, Amsterdam and Zorgvlied, Amstelveen to Place:Zorgvlied, Nieuwer-Amstel, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. If you think I've misinterpreted anything or made any errors, let me know. We have a few sources that may now be misnamed. They can be found by clicking What links here. --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:56, 26 November 2010 (EST)

Don't think this is correct. Nieuwer-Amstel was before 1964 an independent city the same as Ouder-Amstel. After 1964 they got a new name Amstelveen. So you could be born in Nieuwer-Amstel, married in Ouder-Amstel and died in Amstelveen which should be mentioned in the overvieuw of a person.

WeRelate uses the "pipe trick" for places because we want only one wiki page for a locality. Your page can display what you want but still point to a common page by using [[Place:Nieuwer-Amstel, Noord-Holland, Netherlands|your text]] which will display as your text. Gedcom import does this for you automatically when you match a page, the text that is in your gedcom is not removed, a link is created to the common page. --Jennifer (JBS66) 10:03, 11 May 2011 (EDT)

Jennifer, sorry but it looks "krom". Why, just because of a few reasons and nbr 1 is : in your database you have a place called Cool, Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands. That is the place I was born in 1942 and is located in the center of Rotterdam. Cool was not a seperate city in Rotterdam. So why a seperate record? I can follow it.--Bensinnema 11:00, 11 May 2011 (EDT)

Since Cool was not a separate entity around the year 1900, it should be redirected to Rotterdam. So, it is not correct as it stands now. --Jennifer (JBS66) 11:14, 11 May 2011 (EDT)
