Place:Yr As Fawr, Glamorgan, Wales

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Yr As Fawr from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"MONKNASH, a parish in Bridgend [registration] district, Glamorgan; near the Nash light[house] on Bristol channel, 6 miles SW of Cowbridge [railway] station. Post town: Bridgend. Acres: 1,584; of which 260 are water. Real property: £1,769. Population: 121. Houses: 16. The property is divided among a few. The manor was given, by Richard de Grenville, to Neath abbey. There are ruins of a monastic barn and other buildings. The living is a [perpetual] curacy in the diocese of Llandaff. Value, £67. Patron, J. B. Pryce, Esq. The church is good."

Wikipedia states that Monknash is in the parish of St. Donats which is also on the south coast of the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales (formerly the county of Glamorgan, Wales. Monknash is on the the more modern of the Ordnance Survey Maps listed below.

GENUKI also ties Monknash to Yr As Fawr. Yr As Fawr will be the Welsh equivalent.

• The FamilySearch Wiki on Glamorgan has recently been updated (early 2016) and looks remarkably like Wikipedia. Their map "Glamorgan Parish Map.jpg" enlarges to show all the original parishes. The sub-section "Parishes of Historic Glamorgan" lists all the parishes of Glamorgan and the newer preserved counties and principal areas in both English and Welsh.
