History

The first burial at what is now Union Cemetery was Balser Hess in 1806. In 1847, the Hess family sold the cemetery and surrounding land to Union Cemetery. The cemetery continued to grow and in 1946 purchased 75 acres about a half mile north of the "old" cemetery. Union Cemetery covers more than 125 acres and is the site of approximately 70,000 burials.

  • Records of pre-1935 burials are available at the cemetery office. Those records contain only the decedent's name, date of burial and location.
  • The cemetery charges a fee of $1 per name if requested to send a copy of the interment record. They will also provide a map showing the location of each requested name that is found.
