The civil parish of St. Austell Rural was established in 1894 in Cornwall, England and became part of St. Austell Rural District. It covered a large area to the north of the town of St. Austell. In 1925 a portion of the rural parish was transferred to St. Austell Urban Parish, and in 1934 the whole of the Rural parish was abolished and the remaining area transferred to St. Austell Parish which, at this point, dropped the word "Urban" from its name. The china clay mines were chiefly located in this parish. Co-ordinates given are approximate. Prior to its establishment the area covered by St. Austell Rural Parish would have been part of the Powder Hundred of Cornwall. [edit] ReferenceOne of the many maps available on A Vision of Britain through Time is one from the Ordnance Survey Series of 1900 illustrating the parish boundaries of Cornwall at the turn of the 20th century. This map blows up to show all the parishes and many of the small villages and hamlets. The following websites have pages explaining their provisions in WeRelate's Repository Section. Some provide free online databases.
