Snarestone is now a hamlet in the civil parish of Appleby Magna. From 1894 until 1974 it was a separate parish within in Ashby-de-la-Zouch Rural District. The whole area is now part of the North West Leicestershire District of Leicestershire, England.

Although Snarestone is a Leicestershire village it has a Derbyshire postcode and is 3 miles (5 km) from the county boundary of Warwickshire.

Shackerstone (mentioned in the Wikipedia article) is a separate parish south of Snarestone.
