Scagglethorpe is a village and civil parish in the Ryedale District of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated just south from the A64 road, 3 miles (5 km) east from Malton and, on a southwest-northeast axis, almost mid-way between the City of York and the town of Scarborough.

Scagglethorpe was originally a detached township of the ancient parish of Moor Monkton in the Ainsty Wapentake that surrounded the City of York. However, it was transferred to its neighbouring ancient parish of Settrington in the Buckrose Wapentake of the East Riding of Yorkshire. Scagglethorpe was made a civil parish in 1866 and in 1894 it became part of the Norton Rural District.

In 1974 rural districts were abolished and the border between the East Riding of Yorkshire and the North Riding of Yorkshire was realigned. The North Riding changed its name to North Yorkshire. Since 1974 Scagglethorpe has been in North Yorkshire, specifically within the Ryedale District.
