[edit] SignificanceIn April 1779 brothers person:Frederick Starnes (2), and person:Joseph Starnes (1), and brotherinlaw Michael Moyer, were killed by Indians while scouting in April of 1779. This event is described in various contemporary documents, including the pension statements of person:Jacob Starnes (1) who escaped during the attack, and Person:George Michael Bedinger (1), and reminiscences of Person:William Whitley (8). Emory Hamilton includes this event as one of his Atrocity Stories", though he incorrectly places the event itself in Wise County Virginia. Source:Starnes and Starnes, 1983 place their final resting place as in or near this cemetery. Person:George Michael Bedinger (1), however, placed this event at Blue Lick, some 25 miles due west.
