Oldcastle (Welsh: Yr Hencastell) is a small village in Monmouthshire, Wales. Oldcastle is located six miles north of Abergavenny just off the A465 road Abergavenny to Hereford road. The village is on the River Monnow and very close to the Black Mountains and sits right next to Offa's Dyke on the Wales-England border. The village is associated with John Oldcastle (died 1417) of an old Herefordshire land-owning family through the medieval period. In 1935, in a move to reduce the number of parishes within Abergavenny Rural District, Oldcastle was absorbed into the civil parish of Crucornau Fawr. [edit] Research Tips
