administrative district which Masham RD joined in 1974
Masham Rural District was an administrative division of the North Riding of Yorkshire based on the village of Masham. It was created in 1934 from Masham Urban District (which, unusually, included 7 townships) plus Colsterdale civil parish which had previously been in Leyburn Rural District. Since the municipal reorganization of 1974, most of the area covered by Masham Rural District has been located in the administrative District of Harrogate, North Yorkshire with some in the the Richmondshire District.
