Ellingstring is a civil parish and a village located about 5 miles southeast of Leyburn. From 1934 until 1974 it was a township in the Masham District, and between 1894 and 1934 it was part of Masham Urban District. It is now within Harrogate District. Historically it was a township in the ancient parish of Masham in the Hang East Wapentake. The population of the parish was estimated at 80 by the North Yorkshire administration in 2012.

"ELLINGSTRING, a township in Masham parish, [North Riding of] Yorkshire; 5 miles SE of Middleham. Acres: 402. Real property: £852. Population: 164. Houses: 44. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
