Township of Marion

Marion is a civil township situated in the southeastern part of the county of Doniphan, state of Kansas, United States of America. It is bounded on the north and east by the township of Washington, on the east and south by the state of Missouri (including the county of Buchanan and its townships of Washington, Wayne, and Lake), on the west by the township of Wayne, and on the northwest by the township of Center. The Missouri river forms Marion's southeastern boundary with the state of Missouri.

History

Marion was organized on 21 October 1856. It was named after General Francis Marion of Revolutionary fame.

Boundaries

Originally the township's boundaries were fixed as follows:

Commencing at the southwest corner of Washington Township, as then established, thence south on range line, between Ranges 21 and 22, to the Missouri River; thence up the said river to the south line of Washington Township; thence west along said line to place of beginning.

On 21 June 1859, a change was made and the boundaries were fixed as follows:

Commencing at the northwest corner of Section 36, Town 3, Range 21; thence east three miles, thence south to the Missouri River; thence south with said river to the southwest corner of Section 24, Town 4, Range 21; thence north one mile; thence west one mile; thence north to place of beginning.
