History of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, pp. 497, 498 [1] p. 497 "Blake's Mills, usually called Lockport, is a little village of 300 people, located on the south side of the Tuscarawas River, on the Ohio Canal, opposite New Philadelphia. It was incorporated in the spring of 1883..." p. 498 "Lockport was laid out in 1829 by Frederick Shull and Gottlieb Fackler, on the south side of the Ohio Canal, immediately above Lock 13." Note: I believe that at some date "Lockport" was absorbed into the city of New Philadelphia, but no proof/date has yet been found. |
