Lamar is a city in and the county seat of Barton County, Missouri, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 4,532. Lamar is well known as the birthplace of President Harry S. Truman.

Lamar was laid out in 1856. It was named for Mirabeau B. Lamar, second President of the Republic of Texas.

Lamar underwent multiple attacks by rebels during the Civil War.

Lamar was a sundown town, "a Jim Crow town of 3,000, without a single Negro family.… Colored people weren't wanted in Lamar."
