The Village of Hume is a settlement within the united parish of Stitchel and Hume which straddled the border between the two former counties of Roxburghshire and Berwickshire. The parishes were united in 1640 and were always described as Stitchel and Hume, never as Hume and Stitchel. Therefore, the parish is to be found under Roxburghshire, not Berwickshire. The village has a population of less than 500.

Hume is the location of Hume Castle, which dates from the late 12th or early 13th century, and was the original residence of the Home or Hume family. The Wikipedia article is quite extensive.
