The Hereford Borough was one of the districts into which the county of Hereford and Worcester was divided on its creation in 1974. The county lasted until 1998 at which time the Hereford District was transferred back to Herefordshire.

The district municipality was formed on 1 April 1974 from the City of Hereford and some surrounding parishes.

When Hereford and Worcester was dissolved in 1998, Herefordshire became a unitary authority and thus the Hereford Borough ceased to exist.
