A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Hemyock Hundred from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1871-72:

"HEMYOCK--popularly HEMMICK--a village, a parish, and a hundred in Devon....The hundred contains seven parishes. Acres: 22,288. Population: 5,225. Houses: 1,112."
