It is situated near Bolton Abbey and a local Heritage Railway called Skipton & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. It has its own halt currently called Holywell Halt, but which is one day it is hoped will be renamed Halton East Halt. The settlement is 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Skipton. GENUKI provides a description of Halton East from a 19th century gazetteer.
