A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Graig from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"GRAIG, a hamlet in Bassaleg parish, Monmouth[shire]; on the Crumlin canal, 3 miles W by N of Newport. Real property: £3,260. Population: 684. Houses: 130."
the text in this section is based on an article in Wikipedia

Graig is now an electoral ward and coterminous community (or parish) of the City of Newport, Wales. It had a population of 6,159 in the UK census of 2011.

The ward is bounded by the Ebbw River and M4 motorway to the east, the city boundary to the north and west. The southern boundary is formed by a line from the M4/A467 intersection in a roughly westerly direction as far as the city boundary. The area is governed by the Newport City Council.

The ward contains Bassaleg (Bassaleg contained Grain before 1894), Rhiwderin and the hamlet of Machen Lower (which was a small civil parish between 1894 and 1974). It also contains the western half of the Foxgloves estate – as the Ebbw passes through the centre, the eastern half is in Rogerstone.

John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72 describes Rhiwderin as follows

"RHIWDERIN, a railway-station in the S W of Monmouth; on the Rhymney and Newport railway, 4½ miles W of Newport."
