A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Fwthog from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:  :"FOOTHOG, Fwthog, or Toothog, a hamlet in Cwmyoy parish, Hereford[shire]; 10 miles NNW of Abergavenny. Acres: 2,081. Real property: £541. Population: 110. Houses: 30."

Note that the gazetteer states that the parish of Cwmyoy was also in Herefordshire in the early 1870s. On the Ordnance Survey map of Monmouthshire dated 1900 Fwthog is located to the west of the parish of Cwmyoy and was a separate parish.

In 1935, in a move to reduce the number of parishes within Abergavenny Rural District, Fwthog was absorbed into the civil parish of Crucornau Fawr.
