Forrabury and Minster is a civil parish on the north coast of Cornwall, England. The parish was originally divided between the coastal parish of Forrabury and inland parish of Minster until they were united in 1918. The ecclesiastical or ancient parishes were united in 1779. The two parishes include the fair-sized village of Boscastle which sits on the border of two parishes. The parish was in Camelford Rural District from its formation until rural districts were abolished by the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974. It is bounded to the north by the Atlantic; to the east by the parishes of St. Juliot, Lesnewth and Davidstow; to the south by Camelford parish (ecclesiastical parish of Lanteglos-by-Camelford); and to the west by Trevalga parish. The population of Forrabury and Minster parish in the 2001 census was 888. See the individual articles on Forrabury, Minster and the village of Boscastle. Finding vital records for people who lived in the area before 1918 may involve searching two or three registers. For more information, see the EN Wikipedia article Forrabury and Minster.
[edit] Research TipsOne of the many maps available on A Vision of Britain through Time is one from the Ordnance Survey Series of 1900 illustrating the parish boundaries of Cornwall at the turn of the 20th century. This map blows up to show all the parishes and many of the small villages and hamlets. The following websites have pages explaining their provisions in WeRelate's Repository Section. Some provide free online databases.
