Flaxton Rural District was an administrative division of the North Riding of Yorkshire based on the village of Flaxton and located in the southern part of the administrative county immediately north of the City of York. From the municipal reorganization of 1974 until 1996, the area covered by Flaxton Rural District was located in the administrative Ryedale District, North Yorkshire.

In 1996 a large number of civil parishes originally in Flaxton Rural District were transferred to the City of York unitary authority. Most of these parishes covered formerly rural areas, justifying their place in the former Flaxton Rural District.
