East Hauxwell (#12 on map) (now Hauxwell) is now a civil parish and a village in the Richmondshire District of North Yorkshire, England. It is located south of Catterick, best known as the location of Catterick Garrison. In 2011 the population was recorded as 111 (including the very thinly populated parishes of Barden (near Leyburn) (#3), West Hauxwell (#31) and Garriston (#16).
To the west of the village lies Hauxwell Hall, a 17th-century country house belonging to the Dalton family.
Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Hauxwell or East Hauxwell was located in Leyburn Rural District. Historically, it was an ancient or ecclesiastical parish in the Hang West Wapentake. Barden (near Leyburn) and West Hauxwell were townships in the ancient parish.
The area of the parish of Hauxwell was 3,850 acres, and divided into its townships East Hauxwell: 1,250 acres, West Hauxwell: 900 acres, Barden: 1,780 acres and Garriston: 670 acres.
