The burial ground was established on lower Washington Street in the late 1700s, and the burials removed in the mid 1800s to make way for a new church on the property. The remains of Reverend John Tyler and his wife Hannah were placed in a crypt under the chancel and others were re-interred in a common grave. The gravestones still exist and are kept in the cellar of the present day church located at 78 Washington Street, Norwich, Connecticut.
