Blekinge län or Blekinge county, is a county in the south of Sweden. It borders the counties of Skåne, Kronoberg, Kalmar and the Baltic Sea.
[edit] History[edit] Blekinge as a provinceBefore 1050 Blekinge became a province in Denmark. Between the year 1332 and 1360 Blekinge was under swedish rule. In earlier days when Blekinge was a province in Denmark, it was divided in two counties. Sölvesborg county (western part) and Lyckå county (eastern part). Lyckå county was in 1601 replaced by Kristianopel county. The province Blekinge became swedish again the year 1658 after the peace treaty in Roskilde and was first (1658-1669) a part of Kristianstad county. Provinces serve no administrative function in Sweden. Instead, that is done by the counties of Sweden. However, Blekinge has virtually the same boundaries as the corresponding Blekinge County. [edit] Blekinge countyBetween 1680 and 1683, due to the foundation of the naval base at Karlskrona, the province Blekinge was a part of Kalmar county. First in the year 1683 Blekinge county was created and has today 5 municipalities: Karlshamn, Karlskrona, Olofström, Ronneby and Sölvesborg.
