Barwick is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is situated adjacent to the slightly larger village of Stanhoe, some 30 km northeast of the town of King's Lynn and 60 km north west of the city of Norwich.

The civil parish has an area of 5.27 km² and in the 2001 UK census had a population of 21 in 8 households. At the 2011 UK census the population remained less than 100 and was counted with that of the civil parish of Docking. For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the District of King's Lynn and West Norfolk.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Barwick from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1871-72:

"BARWICK, or Berwick-in-the-Brakes, a parish in Docking [registration] district, Norfolk; 4 miles SSW of Burnham-Westgate [railway] station, and 9 WNW of Fakenham. Post Town: Burnham, under [King's] Lynn. Acres: 1,278. Real property: £1,321. Population: 26. Houses: 5. Barwick House is the seat of D. Hoste, Esq. The living is a vicarage, united with the rectory of Stanhoe, in the diocese of Norwich. The church is in ruins.

Research Tips

  • Ancestry.co.uk has the following lists as of 2018 (UK or worldwide Ancestry membership or library access required). With the exception of the index to wills these files are browsible images of the original documents. The files are separated by type and broken down into time periods (i.e., "Baptism, Marriages, and Burials, 1535-1812" is more than one file). The general explanatory notes are worth reading for those unfamiliar with English parish records.
