Death date: 1808 or 1810 and Death Location ?

The source for the 5 September 1808 death date is Ancestry Public Trees which Item 3 in Sources states should be viewed with caution. In reviewing Ancestry Public Trees several do state the 5 September 1808, but they also state the Hardy community in Bedford County, VA. (NOT Hardy County, W.V.) but provide no documentation to prove same. The Hardy community of Bedford, VA is 194 miles from Patterson Creek, Hampshire (now Mineral) County, Virginia. Most of these family files also have William Rogers marrying Sarah Lowe on 10 December 1771 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. But the William Rogers she married died 5 December 1742 in Adair County, Kentucky In a Nelson County, KY court deposition over land in 1818 James Rogers Sr., age 75, stated that William Rogers, who died 7 or 8 years ago was his eldest brother, and that another brother, Jonathan Rogers died in Virginia in 1782. There is also a confirming statement by an Agnes Bailey who identifies herself as a sister of these 3 brothers, James Rogers, William Rogers and Jonathan Rogers.

On the 20 May 1805 the Hampshire County, VA county clerk recorded a Power of Attorney between William Rogers Senr of Hampshire County, VA. and William Rogers Junr of Nelson County, KY. [Nelson County, KY. - DB 6, p. 391] This shows that William Rogers Junr had migrated to Nelson County, KY. along with his Uncle James Rogers and seems to be the source of confusion as to James Rogers eldest brother William Rogers having allegedly migrated to Nelson County, KY.

Given James Rogers, Sr.'s Nelson County, KY. deposition placing William Rogers death 7 to 8 years earlier (1810-1811) and the fact that William Rogers Senr recorded a Power of Attorney in Hampshire County, VA that wss then re-recorded in Nelson County, KY. there seems to be more credence that William Rogers died about 1810 in Hampshire County, VA. age about 70.--Joe 17:16, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
