[add comment] [edit] Some questions about this Sarah [22 June 2013]Sarah is found on the 1860 census as a two year old. She is not found on any other records that I have found so far. But the record for her family in 1870 shows a 13 year old Bettie Ernest who is NOT on the 1860 record. Perhaps this is a daughter named Sarah Elizabeth and called Betty? If the 1900 census record for her mother Amanda could be found, it may tell us how many children Amanda has had. But as of this writing I have not been able to find Amanda Ernest (or Earnest) on the 1900 census record. Amanda did not die until 1904, and she wasn't living with any of her children in 1900. So the puzzle about Sarah remains. Now Betty shows up on the 1880 census enumerated as 'Betty M. Ernest'. So perhaps my assumed name of Sarah Elizabeth is not correct. Perhaps Sarah died young and Betty is a different daughter. I have not found a marriage or death record for either a Sarah or a Betty Ernest. Hopefully, someone will know and edit these pages. 1860 Census Western District, Washington Co., Virginia 1870 Census Glade Spring, Washington Co., Virginia 1880 Census Glade Spring, Washington Co., Virginia |
