Person talk:Sarah Brookman (13)

A place named Chiltern [12 December 2015]

"Sarah was born on the 28th September 1835 in Chiltern, Middlesex, England and she was baptised nearby in Saint Mary's church in Harmondsworth on the 27th December 1835."

This fact has also found its way into the [[Category:Chiltern, Buckinghamshire, England]] which should only be listing the civil parishes located inside the present district. Adding the parishes is currently one of my works in progress.

However, I think Chiltern, Middlesex, is meant for a place with a slightly different name. If she was baptized in Harmondsworth it is probably someplace by Heathrow Airport. What about Colnbrook? It was in Buckinghamshire before 1974, wasn't it?

Anyway, could someone please check originals if possible. Thanks. --Goldenoldie 12:20, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Dear Goldenoldie

I'm Sarah Brookman's 2xgreat granddaughter in Canberra, Australia. Sarah Brookman's parish baptism record at Harmondsworth lists her birthplace as Knightsbridge. Her parish marriage certificate in Kyneton, Victoria, Australia, lists her birth as Chelsea, although I acknowledge it looks very much like Chiltern and for a long time I puzzled over which Chiltern it might have been. Her parents were both from Harmondsworth (but they were married in London and when Sarah was born her father was working in the brewing business) which probably explains why Sarah was baptised at Harmondsworth. Chelsea is of course part of the Royal Borough of Knightsbridge and Chelsea so it fits with her records listing both Chelsea and Knightsbridge as her birthplace. I confess I don't know Knightsbridge and Chelsea were joined together in the borough when Sarah was born in 1835. Nevertheless, the two are side by side and the London church where her parents married is also nearby.

I hope this helps.

Hello Goldenoldie,

I have modified the text slightly because I agree with Therese, that the details have always been a little confusing in relation to Sarah's birth.--JeffreyRLehrer 01:18, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
