M. D. [23 February 2017]

M. D. is an anachronism. Assuming wikipedia:Doctorate is correct in stating "The MD became the standard first degree in medicine during the 19th century, but as a three-year undergraduate degree; it did not become established as a graduate degree until 1930. The MD, as the standard qualifying degree in medicine, gave that profession the ability (through the American Medical Association, established in 1847 for this purpose) to set and raise standards for entry into professional practice.", M.D. in the United States did not exist until the 1800's was not required to practice medicine until later in the 1800s, if then. I believe in colonial times, a college degree was not even required to become a doctor. And it seems that a basic college degree seems to have allowed people to choose to either become a minister or a doctor. Dr. is the correct title, as an indication of profession, and long precedes the use of M.D., an indication of training. --Jrich 05:42, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
