Person talk:Robert Parker (53)

Circumstances of Death [17 January 2013]

Discussion from User:Kelly G, moved from primary page:

"He did NOT die in a shootout as depicted in the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". That is quite simply false. There are literally dozens of very reputable people who have been interviewed, over the years, who have sworn they had interactions with "Butch" LONG after his (incorrectly) alleged death in 1908 in Bolivia. Among those very reputable people who have sworn they had dealings with "Butch" after 1908 was his younger sister Lula (Parker) Betenson. In 1974, at the age of 90, she co-authored a book named "Butch Cassidy, My Brother". To ANYONE who still believes the FALSE assertion that he died in Bolivia I would STRONGLY urge you to read her book. According to Lula (Parker) Betenson he died in 1937 in "the Northwest". She would NOT disclose exactly when or exactly where he passed away. To paraphrase her words in her book "he was chased all of his life. He should be able to rest in death" (or words to that effect). She also added that he was NOT the man named William T. Phillips who claimed to be Butch Cassidy (who died in Spokane, WA., coincidentally in 1937) and that HER BROTHER Robert LeRoy Parker was NEVER married and had no children (whereas William T. Phillip was married to a woman named Gertrude Livesay in Michigan in 1908)."

Response: I take no position on the facts here, other than to observe that the proper way to handle a case of competing claims, is to take note of them all, treating them separately and as objectively as possible. No one gets to suppress references or content, on the strength of opinion or preference. Discussion and opinion goes to the talk page. --jrm03063 11:10, 17 January 2013 (EST)

Hi Kelly G - I am very interested in Robert Parker story. I also have read all about the Spokane guy. We lived in Spokane and read the book when it came out. I look forward to seeing if we can find any facts about these people. Glad to see you here! Catherine --cthrnvl 14:41, 17 January 2013 (EST)
