Thomas Burchfield was born about 1737, in MD. Thomas first appeared in North Carolina tax records in Rowen Co., NC, in 1768. A marriage record for Thomas Burchfield and Sarah Leatherwood has not been located. Children include Robert (Elizabeth Hill), Meshack (wife unknown), Lydia (Andrew Hunter), Mary/Arry, Elizabeth (John Reese) and John Burchfield (unknown wife & Mary Patterson). Court records prove Thomas Burchfield did not die at the Battle of Kings Mountain. A two ft. stone on Buck Creek, marks the grave of a Burchfield man, who was killed by Indians in 1783. Many researchers claim this stone marks the grave of Thomas Burchfield.

Mary was born on July 14, 1743, in St George Parish, Baltimore Co., MD. She died on July 20, 1837, in Burke Co., NC. Children include Mary (David Rutherford), Shadrack (Mary Trosper), Meshack (Mary Ann Montgomery), Jesse (Jane McTaggart), and Seth Hyatt (Nancy Ann Dobson/Anna Dobson). More research is needed to verify children.

Exact birth and death date is not known. Sally Burchfield married Nicholas Trosper, probably in Maryland. The mother of Sally Burchfield Trosper is in dispute. It is not known if her mother was Ann Clark or Elizabeth Justice. Sally’s husband Nicholas Trosper was made the administrator of Elizabeth Justice Burchfield’s estate in 1802 in Burke Co., NC. Known children include James Sidney (Eleanor Mahan), Elijah Leonard (Abigail Higgins), Nicholas Livingston Trosper, John H. (Ann Woosley), and William Trosper (Elizabeth Israel). Sally Trosper Burchfield died in Knox Co., KY.

Nathan Burchfield was born between 1739 and 1747, in Baltimore Co., MD. Nathan’s wife in court documents is spelled in several different ways: Abarilla, Aberilla, Abuala, Avarilla, Iberilla, Eberilla, and Eberella. Her maiden name is in dispute.Some researchers think her maiden name Hyatt and others believe her middle name is Wilson. Nathan Burchfield’s date of death is in dispute. Many family trees on ancestry.com list Nathan was killed by Indians in 1783. This information is now thought to be inaccurate. Children include Elizabeth (children by Mr. Williams, Henry Kerley, & Israel Rose), Nathan Jr. (Anna McKinney), Robert “of Cades Cove” (Elizabeth Hill & Mary Gregory), Hezekiah (Elizabeth Jane Melton), Lydia (children by Jacob Rose, Mr. Lane, & James Boggs) & James (Polly Gage). Abarilla Burchfield married Benjamin Vickers between 1796 & 1798. A marriage record has not been found.

Many trees on ancestry.com list Robert Burchfield (Revolutionary Soldier) as the sone of Robert Burchfield (1710). This is false information, Robert Burchfield, husband of Sally Young is the son of Robert Burchfield (1710). Robert was not born on Dec. 18, 1759. This is the date of birth for Robert Burchfield (Revolutionary Soldier). Robert did not die in 1833 in Missouri. More than likely, he died after 1830 in Jefferson Co., TN. Possible children include Joseph (Susannah Holloway & Rachel Harriet Russell), Elijah, and Alexander Burchfield. Verification through YDNA testing is needed.

Over a hundred trees on ancestry.com list misinformation about this family. Robert & Sally did not marry in Warren Co., KY. Her parents were not John & Rebecca Anderson Rone. This line is often confused with the line of Revolutionary Soldier Robert Burchfield, son of Thomas and Sarah Leatherwood Burchfield. Some family trees on ancestry.com list he died in Missouri, more than likely he died in Jefferson Co., TN. A clear list of children has not been verified.
