War of 1812 bounty land [3 April 2011]

War of 1812 bounty land wasn't granted in Ohio. The bounty land acts of 1811 and 1812 "promised 160 acres to privates and non-commissioned officers who enlisted in regiments raised by Congress and who served for five years, unless discharged sooner or killed. ... These warrants were redeemable only in military reserves in Illinois, Arkansas, and Missouri until the act of 1842 made the redeemable at any GLO land office." (The Source, p. 259-260). What the original researcher might have seen was a reference to a land warrant where he was purchasing land from the General Land Office. This is not the same as a military bounty land warrant. -- Amy (Ajcrow) 19:33, 3 April 2011 (EDT)
