Jrich,
I see you've detached Jonathan Fish from purported mother Lydia Miller. I assume it's because it's not specifically known which of Nathaniel's wives was his mother? I've been away from WR for some time, but I notice that there is the possibility of marking a relationship speculative as was done here with the son Ambrose. Could that feature not also be used between Lydia and Jonathan?
I also note that WR has son Jonathan married to an Elizabeth Unknown with a daughter Lydia... WikiTree has this Jonathan (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Fish-516) as the husband of WIdow Faith Fish who died in 1710 by whom he had a daughter Faith Fish who married Thomas Snell. Neither of these women appear to exist on WR.
Thoughts?--Jillaine 11:47, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
- UPDATED: I see that it appears you can't use the speculative function for half of a couple.
- I am trying to clear up some items on my Data Quality report (MyRelate->Data Quality Issues). I couldn't find any specific evidence, though it appears there was an unknown first wife (e.g. The Fish family in England and America : genealogical and biographical records and sketches / by Lester Warren Fish, p. 11). If Lydia Miller born 1640, marriage much before 1658 is not likely. I know there are more children, but of the children here, it seems likely the marriage to the second wife was somewhere in the 10-year gap between 1655 and 1665.
- Yes, speculative templates are not very helpful. They have to be added in two places, making likely one will be left dangling when the other removed. Further, they are not understood by the system so offer no visualization features (such as listing am speculate child in the birth order to see how they fit). The only way to do this in my opinion, is to simply add the speculative child, and have a clear note saying this is speculative with the analysis that leads to that guess. --Jrich 16:23, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
- P. S. Article in Connecticut Nutmegger, Vol. 7, p. 478, reference to his will, but no sources identified, says Nathaniel Fish m. (1) Mehitable Miller, sister of is last wife Lydia, says "it has been accepted" that he married Lydia in 1663. But as I say, no sources named. The article gives no birthdate for Jonathan, nor is it willing to commit to who was Jonathan's mother. The author seems to think Thomas Fish who died 1664, claiming he was an adult at the time, was a son of Nathaniel, which would imply a marriage to first wife early 1640s, leaving room for lots of children by first wife. I believe your cited wikitree page places Jonathan's birth 1655-1662, i.e., before 1663. I am just relaying this, but have no evidence of either its correctness or incorrectness. --Jrich 19:46, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, J... I believe the Mehitable-Lydia sibling status was disproven. The notes on Mehitable's WikiTree profile say: "Mehitable Miller, daughter of Rev. John Miller, was the wife of John Crow, not Nathaniel Fish. Please see: John Crowe and his descendants a genealogy, by Levi Crowell, Published 1903 by T. Y. Crowell & co. in New York; also "The Crowell Family of Yarmouth: Descendants of John," Library of Cape Cod History and Genealogy, No. 72, p. 1 (Yarmouthport, Mass., 1912), repr. in Cape Cod Library, 2:1107-9."
