Person talk:Nathaniel Felton (2)

death date [14 March 2011]

I removed the death date "0 DEC 1769" from this page. It had no supporting sources.

Given that the marriage to Mary was 21 Dec 1769, this death date would mean Nathaniel died within ten days of his marriage. This page shows a son Nathaniel born in 1770, probably based on the recorded baptism on 13 Jan 1771. This suggests a birth in late 1770, suggesting the father probably did make it at least into the year 1770. Further, his widow did not remarry until 1786, and there is no recorded death date in the Roxbury records. Source:Felton, Cyrus. Genealogical History of the Felton Family gives no specific death date. In between 1769 and 1786 there was the Revolutionary War, when some number of men died. So it seems that some kind of evidence would be required to pass off an improbable death date like Dec 1769. --Jrich 23:50, 14 March 2011 (EDT)

parents and child are not a match [2 August 2011]

According to the birth source for this Nathaniel Felton his parents were Nathaniel and Hannah. However the parent page has parents as Nathaniel Felton and Anna Jacobs. Nathaniel Felton and Anna Jacobs married in Salem in Essex County on 13 Jul 1746. See [1].--Beth 12:29, 2 August 2011 (EDT)

When I added the vital record of his birth I was looking at him as husband of Mary Williams. Hannah being an alternate form of Anna, it was not obvious the specified parents were wrong, and I did not investigate them. See Roxbury Church Records which clearly shows Nathaniel and Hannah were married before 1746. Note however that Felton genealogy seems to suggest that the problem is the 1746 marriage date. Don't know the correct answer. --Jrich 12:50, 2 August 2011 (EDT)
After reviewing your information; my conclusion is that the parents are correct and the problem is the marriage date of 1746. There is a death record for Nathl Filton in the Roxbury vital records, p.524, died Feb 24, 1807, age 93. Also there is a birth record of 1714 for a Nathaniel Felton in Salem, Essex County. See [2]. Also of note is a lack of any children b. to Nathaniel and Anna {or Hannah} in Salem after their marriage which indicates a change of residence.--Beth 13:41, 2 August 2011 (EDT)
Like you, I have not found any evidence of a separate couple that is Nathaniel and Anna. The History of Salem by Perley says the Nathaniel b. 1714, m. 1746 Anna Jacobs, lived in Roxbury and "had children". Since he didn't list the children, he wasn't forced to deal with the discrepancy that Roxbury records show, namely, Nathaniel b. 1742, Joshua b. 1743, and William b. 1745 to "Nathaniel and Hannah", all of which occur before the 1746 date, plus several others after that date. --Jrich 14:47, 2 August 2011 (EDT)
