From 1992 Ky Ancestors v28-1

McKinzie Willis
b. 1799 in Madison County Ky.,; son of Nancy Willis. (Madison County., Ky., court records indicate McKinzie's father left the county ca. 1816.) In the 1830's, McKinzie bought "3rd class land" in Estill County Ky., on Red Lick Fork of Station Camp Creek. McKinzie Willis died in the late 1860's while living on the headwaters of Drop Lick Creek in Jackson County., Ky., and was buried near Hisal, near Jackson County. He had married Ann Alcorn in March 1863 after the death of his first wife. Mary Polly Logsdon b. in 1800 in Madison County, Ky., died in 1861 0r 1862 in Estill Co. Ky., dau. of John Logsdon and Susanna Durbin b. 1775-1780.

I have no proof of any of the above death dates but will see if I can find some documentaion (legal) of death, marriage records.Ruthnevada 22:03, 8 April 2011 (EDT)

Do the court records above identify McKinzie's father as such? Or is it that the person who wrote the original item thinks the person mentioned in these records is McKinzie's father? Q 22:09, 8 April 2011 (EDT)

The Madison County court records show an order for Nancy Willis to tell the court why she has not bound out her son since his father "absconded" from the county. That record was dated 1816. (I believe I sent that to you. It was in the Madison Co. court order books)

A William Willis signed for his daughter Rachel to marry Christopher Durbin in 1814. McKinzie is living next to Christopher Durbin in the 1820 Madison County census. It is assumed by those facts that William could be the father of McKinzie and that he left after 1814 and before 1816. There is a William in the 1810 census of Madison County, but not in 1820. I'm going to try to find some court records between 1814-1816 in Mad. Co. and see if there is a Willis who was in trouble with the law or taxes during that timeframe.
