Deed abstracts [16 July 2015]

The following are deeds that were investigated trying to find more information about this Matthew. The only one that truly add something new is the 1702 deed to Dr. George Jackson. Some of these deeds represent the grandfather, the father, this Matthew and various other Gannetts. The secondary coverage of this family is so poor, hopefully, this may slow down the uncritical copying of confused reports of this family.

Vol. 3, p. 135 Matthew Gannet of Scituate Husbandman to John Pierce of Scituate Husbandman for £13 sells his share in a piece of marsh or meadown in Conahasset in ye Township of Scituate sometime of Annah Vinall and sometime of John Vinall with ye said Matthew Garnnet in partnership & since divided by them ... Hannah my wife shall surrender up all the Right & Interest that she hath. 4 Feb 1691/92.

Vol. 3, p. 201 Matthew Gannet of Scituate in ye Colony & County of New Plimouth being Heir unto his Brother Thomas Gannet deceased who lived formerly in Bridgewater ... by agreement made betweene ye sd Matthew Gannet & Sarah ffaxon who was formerly ye wife of s'd Thomas Gannet, Matthew Gannet did promise to give until Samuel Phillips of Taunton in Bristoll County a deed of twenty six acres in Bridgewater. 26 Feb 1690 [witnessed 10 Mar 1690/1]. Hannah ye Wife of ye s'd Matthew Gannet surrendered her rights at the time of ensealing & delivery.

Vol. 48, p. 13 Matthew Gannett Sen'r of the Town of Scituate, for £3=5=0, to John Willis of Bridgwater, a parcel of about 10 acres in Bridgwater being formerly the Land of Thomas Gannett now deceased and is mine by Ineritance from my Brother. 12 Feb 1690/91, Acknowledged 3 Jul 1693 [!]. Recorded 6 Oct 1762.

Vol. 14, p. 160 25 Feb 1691/2: Indenture between Matthew Gannett of Scittuate in ye Colony of New Plymouth and Mordecai Lincoln of Hingham in ye County of Suffolk for £7 paid by Mordecai Lincoln sells right to Bound Brook and any land it shall occupy "by reason of any Dam or Dams that shall hereafter be made" or be necessary to set up a mill, with profits to be split. Recorded 28 Apr 1719.

Vol. 5, p. 59 Mathew Gannet Sen'r & Mathew Gannet Ju'r both of Scittuate Planters for £79=3=0 that we owe "for a Cure by him s'd George Jackson on the frozen limbs of the s'd Mathew Gannet Ju'r now perfected, Togeather with nurses, watchers, Dyett, Lodging, & other things" sell to George Jackson of Marlbelhead Chirurgeon a farme in Scittuate Afors'd Att Cohasset of 50 acres. 25 Aug 1702.

Vol. 7, p. 277 Mathew Gannet of Scittuage yeoman for £200 to John Peirce of Scittuate yeoman, my house barn and half saw mill in Scittuate with land and also shares in undivided lands in Hingham 21 Dec 1708.

Vol. 10, Part 2, p. 352 John Peirce of Scituate for £200 convey back to Mathew Gannet the house barn and half sawmill sold to John Peirce by deed dated 21 Dec 1708. 4 May 1711.

Vol. 10, p. 165 Thomas Snell of the Town of Bridgewater to "Matthew Gannett of the Town of Situate in the County aboves'd Son of Joseph Gannett Sometime of s'd Town of Situate Deceased" land in Bridgewater 10 acres & 3 meadow lotts 12 Aug 1713.

Vol. 10, Part 2, p. 414 Mathew Ganit of Scittuate Weaver, for £100 to Stephen Bryant Jun'r of Pembrook ten acres of upland and 3 lots of meadow in Bridgewater at a place called poor meadow together with all ye Rest of my Lands within s'd Town of Bridgwater given to me by My grand father Ganit in his Last will. 8 Sep 1713.

Vol. 10, Part 2, p. 392 Stephen Bryant Jun'r of Pembroke by deed dated 8 Sep 1713 did convent ten acres of upland and two lotts of meadow in Bridgwater together with all the rest of the land given him by his grandfather, for £120 conveys back to Matthew Gannet of Scituate. 15 Nov 1714.

Vol. 16, p. 4 Nicholas Byram Sen'r of the Town of Bridgewater to Matthew Gannett of the same Town, parcel in Bridgewater at Black Brook of three acres 29 Jan 1721/22.

Vol. 6, p. 19 Ebenezer Kent of Cohassett Al[ia]s Hingham to Matthew Gannett of Scittuate a piece of land I bought of Elizabeth Leavitt & lyes near to ye Barn of ye s'd Matthew Gannett, and all my porton that was the Estate of Matthew Gannett Father to s'd Elizabeth Leavitt if s'd Matthew Gannett does make good my Title to ye Certain and Several Pieces & Parcells given me in Exchange. 1 Apr 1717.

Vol. 20, p. 202 Matthew Gannett of Scittuate exchange with Ebenezer Kent of Cohassett al[ia]s Hingham 3 1/2 acres "Granted by ye TProprietors of Cohassett in Scittuate to Matthew Gannett Execut'r Jun'r Executor to Matthew Gannett, another Parcel of one acre granted by proprietors to Matthew Gannett Jun'r Son of s'd Matthew Gannett Execut'r. 2 Apr 1717. Recorded 19 Jul 1726.

Vol. 15, p. 168 "Matthew Gannett Jun'r & Joseph Gannett both of Scittuate" being seized and possessed of an undivided tract in Bridgewater containint 138 acres mutually agree to a division. 22 Aug 1720.

Vol. 15, p. 187 Matthew Gannett of the Town of Bridgewater to Daniel Hudson of ye Same Town 20 acres in Bridgewater 15 Mar 1720/21.

Vol. 22, p. 32 Joseph House of Sictuate Husbandman & Deborah my Wife for £4=10=0 to Matthew Gannett of Scituate Husbandman all property in Cohassett within ye Township of Sctuate "which came by my afores'd Wife Deborah House". 20 Mar 1722 [9th year of George I, so 1722/23].

Vol. 28, p. 99 back Matthew Gannett of Scittuate Yeoman for £84, to Caleb Torrey of Scittuate Yeoman, my two whole Shares in ye Common & Undivided Upland & Sawmpland with the Town of Scittuate Granted & allowed to me by ye s'd Town of Situate in the year 1723 ... one of s'd shares to me in my own personal Right & the other to ye Successor of Matthew Gannett Deceased. 28 Mar 1726

Vol. 25, p. 136 Matthew Gannit of Scituate yeoman, for 20 shilling, to William Baily of Scituate all right he may have in 1 1/2 acres in Scituate in ye right of Ann Vinal to Matthew Gannit Deceased and all right in land w'ch ye s'd Baily now holds. 2 Jun 1730.

Vol. 25, p. 215 back Matthew Gannett & Joseph Gannet both of Bridgewater Yeomen, for £20, to Nathaniel Harding of the Town of Pembroke, 2 parcels totaling 10 acres of land in Easterly Part of Bridgewater laid pursuant to the vote of ye Purchasers in Feb. ye 7th: 1725/6. 20 Feb 1729/30.

Vol. 47, p. 125 back Matthew Gannett of Bridgwater Yeoman, for £30, to Joseph Alger of the sam Town Husbandman, one Half of a Share of Land in the Meadow Land so called lying on the north side of the Town River in Bridgwater aforesaid said s'd share was laid out unto Richard Davenport upon the Purchase Right of Thomas Gannett deceased. 23 Jun 1731. Acknowledged 16 Mar 1757. Recorded 4 Jan 1762.

Vol. 48, p. 7 back Matthew Gannett of Bridgwater Yeoman, for £31, to Isaac Hamlen of the same Town yeoman, sells about 25 acres of land in the Township of Pembroke at a Place called poort Meadow. 1 Dec 1737 Recorded 21 Sep 1762.

Vol. 46, p. 249 Matthew Gannett of Bridgwater Yeoman, for £8, to Nathaniel Chamberlin of Bridgwater Blacksmith, a parcel about three acres near Black Brook in Bridgewater 5 Sep 1750. Recorded 30 Apr 1761.

Vol. 51, p. 167 back Mathew Gannett and his wife Martha of Bridgwater and Joseph Clap and his wife Sarah of Scituate, for £21=6=8, to our Brother David Perkins of Bridgwater, quitclaim to him their rights to the Third part of that Estate Which our Father David Perkins late of Bridgewater died seized of and was Set off To our mother Martha Perkins Deceased for her Dower. 26 Jun 1755. Recorded 24 Oct 1765.

Vol. 43, p. 228 Indenture between "Matthew Gannett Weaver & Joseph Gannet Cooper both of Bridgewater" & Joseph Cushing of Boston, identifying several parcels of land in Bridgewater including one of 138 acres subject to a suit by Joseph Cushing. 30 Apr 1756.

Vol. 44, p. 173-4 Indenture 8 Jun 1756 between Matthew Gannett of Bridgewater Weaver and Joseph Gannett of Bridgewater Cooper to divide several parcels jointly owned: 1) 138 acres parcel, 2) about 10 acres in the eight mile Grant of the Township of Bridgewater, 3) about 2 acres parcel, 4) 4+ acre parcel, 5) about 10 acres within the eight Mile Grant, 6) about 10 acre parcel, 7) parcel of about 3 acres, 8) parcel about seven acres on east side of Black Brook Swamp, 9) about 28 acres on west side of poor meadow, 10) 5 acres on westerly side of poor meadow, 11) 2 acres at Black Brook Swamp, 11 [sic]) 20 acres at Satusket Pond. Joseph to get part of 138 acre parcel and 2, 3, 4; Matthew to get rest of 138 acre parcel, and 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Vol. 15, p. 207 back Joseph Gannett of Scittuate Cooper to Matthew Gannett jun'r of Scittuate afores'd Weaver grant of 5 acres in Bridgewater and all rights in Bridgewater excepting my portion of 138 acres. 22 Aug 1720. 10 Apr 1721: Hannah Gannett the Wife of the within named Joseph Gannett relinquished her Rights of Dower.
